The charming alpine village community of Girdwood is located 35 miles south of Anchorage along the scenic Seward Highway. All of Alaska’s outdoor activities are available in Girdwood, which is a popular destination year-round. Girdwood is the location of Alaska’s premier year-round resort, the Alyeska Resort at Mount Alyeska.

Surrounded by Chugach State Park and Chugach National Forest, Girdwood and the surrounding area offers plenty of hiking and adventure, including kayaking, raft trips, mountain biking, wildlife viewing and it is a popular place for paragliding. Guided snowmachine adventures are available year-round, with summer trips on one of the surrounding glaciers.

Girdwood makes a great base camp for an Alaska visit. All of the Kenai Peninsula is within quick driving distance.

Crow Creek Mine

Built in 1898, Girdwood’s historic Crow Creek Mine is Southcentral Alaska’s richest gold mine, having produced over 45,000 ounces of gold. It remains popular for tourist visitors and local miners. Visitors can view historic buildings and pan for gold–keep what you find!

Access: By road on the Seward Highway, 35 miles southwest of Anchorage.

Location: Located on Turnagain Arm, in the Municipality of Anchorage, 35 miles southwest of downtown Anchorage. The Chugach State Park and Chugach National Forest border Girdwood on three sides.

Population: 1,850.
